This document describes how to activate Postico licenses. If you are looking for the license terms, please click here.
You can use Postico 2 without a license for evaluation puproses. For any other purpose, you must purchase a license and activate it.
Postico 2 licenses are delivered as a short license key of the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
To activate your Postico 2 license:
If you have a single user license, Postico should now be activated. For multi-user licenses, a dialog window will appear asking you to provide a device name (on Postico 2.1 and newer). The default is your computer name (eg. "Jakobs Macbook Pro"). You can pick any name you like. It appears in the online license manager so IT administrators can see to see who is using Postico licenses.
If these instructions fail, see Errors related to License Activation
If you have multiple user accounts on your Mac, you need to activate Postico separately on each account.
Multiple activations on a single Mac only count as one device with regard to the license limit.
You can place a text file with the license key on the path /Library/Application Support/Postico/license-key.txt to make Postico automatically activate itself for all users (see Automatic License Activation).
If you deactivate Postico on one of the accounts, it will automatically be deactivated on all accounts on the same Mac.
If you want to move your Postico 2 license to another Mac, you need to deactivate it on the old Mac first.
If you want to deactivate Postico on a device that you have already wiped, and you still have access to the device, you can use the following procedure:
If you no longer have access to the old Mac, you can use the Postico 2 license manager instead:
If you want to activate Postico automatically using MDM, please have a look at Automatic License Activation
If you have preordered Postico 2, you have probably received a license file. You can activate your preorder license by double clicking the license file, or by dragging it on the Postico 2 icon.
Alternatively, you can use your order number (should start with "EGG") instead of the license key.
Postico 2 is a paid upgrade. If you have purchased Postico 1.x, and want to use Postico 2, you need to purchase an upgrade. See the pricing page for details.
However, Postico 2 development builds can be activated with Postico 1.x licenses. You can download development builds from the changelog.
If you have purchased Postico from the Mac App Store, you do not need to activate it. The license is verified automatically when you first launch it after downloading it from the Mac App Store.
